Drawing
a profile:
General
Proportions of the adult head.

|
1.
The most important measurement in the head is the eye-line.
The eyes are located midway between the top of the skull
and the chin.
When
in doubt MEASURE!!
|
 |
2.
The next measurement is for the bottom of the nose. It is
located midway between the eyes and the chin. |
 |
3. Measure
halfway down between the eyes and the chin and draw in the
nose. |
 |
4.
Measure the distance between the base of nose and chin.
The lower lip is located half way between this area.
Remember that the lip itself is a tone. The opening of
the mouth is a line.
|
 |
5.
Place the ears between the eyebrows and the base of the
nose. They really are that big! |
 |
6.
All that remains is to put in the details of the face. Remember
that the hair grows out of the head and falls down as a
result of gravity. You can also visualize the hair as a
form and block it in as a shape, adding light and shadow
as it occurs. |
| The
above demonstrates the basic proportions for a full face
head. The profile proportions remain the same even though
the head is turned to the side. The most important thing
a student can do is MEASURE these proportions in order to
draw a convincing head. |
